Apple Lisa: The Beginning of a New Era

Apple Lisa (Short for “Local Integrated Software Architecture”) is a computer that was developed for business use. It was designed primarily for professional users and business life. The Apple Lisa was one of the first computers to use a graphical user interface and a mouse, making it advanced and easy to use compared to competing devices at the time.
Lisa entered the market in 1983. It included a 5 MHz Motorola 68000 processor, two 5¼” floppy drives, one megabyte of memory, a 12-inch grayscale monitor, mouse and keyboard, and an optional five-megabyte external hard drive.

Pricing challenges and competition
While the Apple Lisa was technically impressive, its price was also impressive – and unfortunately in the wrong direction. Lisa originally cost $9,995. This made it too expensive for many potential users, and it did not sell as expected.
In addition, the Apple Lisa had to compete with its own siblings, such as the Macintosh. The Macintosh was introduced in 1984 and was a more affordable, though in many ways more primitive, option. Lisa and Mcintosh were not compatible. In addition to the price, Mcintosh’s advantages were the sounds (Lisa only knew how to beep), the 8 MHz processor and a bigger marketing budget.
The legacy of the Apple Lisa
Although the Apple Lisa was not a commercial success, it left a lasting mark on the world of computers. Its graphical user interface and mouse made it a pioneer, and these features are now an integral part of every modern computer and smartphone.
